Exhibitions & Fairs Membership Information

Fairs and exhibitions have a significant impact on the economy of British Columbia. They are gathering places for the young and old and offer the public a place to meet, compete and volunteer their services.

Not only do fairs and exhibitions have an economic benefit, they also offer many tangible benefits to each and every community.

In order for agricultural fairs and exhibitions to be a member of the BC Association of Agricultural Fairs and Exhibitions they must meet the mandate of the association’s bylaws and have 10 recognized agricultural categories.

Membership Benefits

Fairs & Exhibitions Insurance Program

  • An exclusive insurance program has been developed through partnership with Capri Insurance to fairs, exhibitions and qualifying associate and affiliate members of the BC Association of Agricultural Fairs & Exhibitions.

Annual Conference

  • Our annual conference is an opportunity for fairs, exhibitions, commercial, associate and affiliate members to come together to network, exchange information and learn from the educational workshops and sessions offered.

Awards Program

  • The BCAAFE encourages excellence in our industry through our annual awards program. Categories are offered in all levels of membership. Recipients are recognized at the Annual Conference each year.

Fair Guide

  • 20,000 copies are printed and distributed throughout BC’s visitor centers, on ferry routes and terminals, Chamber of Commerce offices, select BCAA Travel Centres and through our members.


  • The quarterly newsletter is filled with industry related information, announcements and articles. The newsletter is distributed in both hard copy and via electronic mail.

Annual Membership Directory

  • The annual directory provides detailed contact information for each member of the Association. The directory is compiled in early February and is distributed in hard copy and by electronic mail throughout the province and nationally.


  • BCAAFE develops partnerships with such organizations as B.C. 4-H, Ag In The Classroom, Horse Council of BC, BC Safety Authority, to the benefit of all parties.

Web Site

  • Developed and maintained to provide up to date information about our industry. Assists in promoting our members and provides links to all of our members sites.

Workshop and Sessions

  • BCAAFE has and will continue to orchestrate workshops and seminars for training and development of volunteers and staff throughout the province.


  • BCAAFE represents its members at the national level as a member of the Provincial Executive Committee with CAFE (Canadian Association of Fairs & Exhibitions) and at the international level as a provincial associate of the IAFE (International Association of Fairs & Expositions).

Funding and Projects

  • BCAAFE researches ongoing funding and project opportunities, in which member fairs will share the benefits.

Management Services

  • The BCAAFE full time office, under the direction of the Executive Director, is available to provide assistance and information.

Membership Criteria

A fair or exhibition that is interested in applying to become a member of the BC Association of Agricultural Fairs and Exhibitions must meet the mandate of the association’s bylaws.

Any Association in British Columbia which has held an annual fair or exhibition for the previous two years shall be eligible for membership provided that:

  1. The fair or exhibition has met the current approved criteria regarding the number of categories as approved by the Board of Directors.
  2. All profits are used for the improvements of the fair, grounds, buildings etc. or for the advancement of agriculture.
  3. The association is currently registered and in good standing under the Society Act, the Farmers’ and Women’s Institute Act or under an independent act of the province of British Columbia.

A fair or exhibition association seeking membership in The BC Association of Agricultural Fairs & Exhibitions must hold such possible membership in abeyance until an evaluation of their fair or exhibition has been completed.

Fairs and Exhibitions are required to have 10 recognized agricultural categories (refer to list below). To apply, complete the membership application form, include a copy of your non-profit registration, list of agricultural categories held at your fair and financial statements for two years.

Baking, Canning/Preserving, Dairy Products, Field Crops, Eggs, Honey, Flowers, Beef, Fruits, Draft Horses, Vegetables, Llamas/Alpacas, Wine, Rabbits, Cavies, Waterfowl, Dairy, Goats, Light Horses, Pigeons, Poultry, Sheep, Swine
